Biochemical Techniques for Fish Quality Analysis

A training programme on “Biochemical Techniques for Fish Quality Analysis” was organized at Veraval Research of ICAR-CIFT during 13-19 February, 2015. Shri G. Jayapalan, Deputy Director, Export Inspection Agency inaugurated the programme. Shri Jayabal, Deputy Director, MPEDA was the Guest of Honour. Dr. G.K. Sivaraman, Course Director and SIC, VRC of ICAR-CIFT delivered the Presidential Address and felicitation was offered by Shri Mohammad Koya, SIC, VRC of ICAR-CMFRI. Smt. S. Remya, Scientist welcomed the gathering and Dr. A.K. Jha, Scientist proposed the vote of thanks.

 

Fourteentechnologists, working in various fish processing factories of Gujarat, participated in the training programme. Various technical sessions related to fish quality analysis were handled by the Scientists. Theory classes on ‘Seafood spoilageandbiochemical quality tests for fish, Biochemical composition and nutritional significance of fish, Microbial hazards in sea foods, Postmortem changes in fish and its quality assessment, Quality problems associated with sea foods, Heavy metals contamination and sea foods hazards, Role of MPEDA in assuring quality of sea foods etc. were handled by Dr. G.K. Sivaraman, Shri Jayabal, Shri Mohammed Koya, Dr. A.K. Jha, Shri V. Chandrasekar, Smt. S. Remya, Smt. V. Renuka and Dr. K.K. Prajith.In the practical sessions the trainees were given hands-on training on various biochemical techniques like TMA,TVBN,TBA, Peroxide Value, Heavy Metal analysis, Indole, Formaldehyde and Water quality parameters.

 

In the valedictory session, Dr. G. K. Sivaraman welcomed the gathering. Dr. Zofair, Professor  & Head, Fish Processing Department, College of Fisheries, Veraval was the Chief Guest. Shri G. Jayapalan, Shri Hakkim, Assistant Director, MPEDA, and Shri Mohammad Koya also graced the occasion with their presence. Certificates were distributed to the participants by the guests and prizes were distributed to the toppers in the written examination conducted prior to and after the training programme.Smt. S. Remya proposed the vote of thanks.
